Harja, a young woman from the East escapes from Ninì, an underworld boss of the Apulian Mafia, who has bought her in order to possess her. In her escape she finds herself in the land of Matera and hides on the farm of Felice, a 40-year-old schizophrenic with the gift of dowsing.
Uniting them will be Ninì himself, searching for both of them and unaware that they are together: for Harja is expecting a child with him and at the same time he is searching for the man who is ruining his water business. In fact, in the parched and thirsty land, Felice helps the peasants to dig up water in the fields thanks to her gift also with her sister Sofja. It will be the hard-to-forget past and loneliness that will unite the two and mark them deeply.
