There is a famous Hungarian saying that goes:
It is not enough to be Hungarian, you gotta have talent too
Alexander Korda, film director, producer
This phrase refers to another famous Hungarian artist:
It's not enough to have talent, you also have to be Hungarian.
Robert Capa, photographer
These sayings are, of course, very accurate, but maybe not that actual anymore. In today’s globalized film industry, one has to build their fortune independently of where you are from.
I have seen hundreds of actors talented like A list stars. Still, they were unable to reach the same level of success. Why is that?
We, artists, like to live in our world, which is often a dream world. We tend to imagine things and believe that our fantasies eventually become a reality. This, however, has very little to do with talent.
Talent is the no. 1 asset you must have to succeed in the film business, but there are other, more definable skills without which you will never succeed. Simply because talent is a gift one must take care of and nurture it with diligence and perseverance.
Yes, these are those ugly qualities that we artists do not like, right? We do not like to follow up emails, make cheat sheets of our latest networking events, edit a new showreel, have a new headshot… not to mention, have a website, update IMDb and send the link to the industry professionals.
If you are a professional actor, recognize yourself, and have difficulties in the routine mentioned above tasks, I can show you a few easy tricks for keeping yourself on track and making sure you never lose an opportunity due to unpreparedness…
You need to change your habits and develop certain new skills now to live a life of freedom and financial security!
